A leader's perspective...
Some associate Germany with the biggest party in the world, Oktoberfest. Others think of fairy tales and castles. Whatever springs to mind when you think of Germany, it's there, ready and waiting. The spirit of Oktoberfest can be experienced everyday in the many beer gardens and beer halls across the country. For lovers of fairytales, travel the Rhine valley to see the highest concentration of castles in the world. The Romantic Road from Wurzburg in central Germany, to Fussen in the south lives up to its name. The road is dotted with many small villages, patchwork crops and of course, vineyards. It is perfect countryside for cycling. There was no shortage of inspiration for the Grimm Brothers in their native land and Little Red Riding Hood may skip around the corner at any moment.

Surf's up in Munich
If you thought traveling in Germany means no chance of catching a wave, then think again! If you are prepared to brave the cold, then metropolitan Munich is where you can find a river break on the Isar River. There´s a local hang-out for the hard-core surfers where the river flows out of a tunnel over a man-made break - but word of warning, beware the rocks!
If you´re not up for some potentially bone-crushing fun, then Flosslande is a better break for beginners. It is a little further up river and not as dangerous, also the whole atmosphere is much more laid-back. You can sunbathe on the lawn, chill-out and enjoy a summer BBQ, as it´s usually only going-off from April to September.
By the way, when I said the it´s cold I meant it – water temperature is around 4 degrees Celsius in April and rises to a scorching 8 degrees Celsius in October!
Berlin Wall
I was never short of things to do in Berlin. I took a bike tour round the city and was lucky enough to see so much in just one day. The highlight was without a doubt getting to see what was left of the Berlin Wall. It was a memorable moment as I touched the wall and walked up and down beside it, looking at the graffiti splattered on the bricks that remain. There are a few more places where the wall still stands but I got to visit the largest section. It was a really fascinating history lesson being able to digest how something which now appears so fragile was formerly so divisive. It is tucked up a side alley and we were taken to it by surprise, which made it all the better.
Berlin nightlife
What I loved the most about Berlin was the nightlife. I had no idea where to go so it was by complete chance that I happened to wander into this excellent little club. There were very few tourists, the techno music was pumping, and it was completely different to anything else back home. The people are fantastic in Berlin, always up for a good time. It is like nowhere else in Europe. We partied hard till the small hours and had a brilliant time. When we passed it the next day I was surpised to see that the top level had turned into a little coffee bar. Brilliant! I went in and had a coffee, which was bizarre but one other thing I love about Berlin.
